The vinometer for measuring sugar level will help you control the sugar content during home production of alcoholic drinks.

Our vinometer gives the result as a grade on the Balling scale (Blg) and covers the range from 0 to 24°Blg. We can assume that 1°Blg corresponds with 10 g of sugar in 1 litre of wine must.

This device is calibrated at 20°C and gives a result as an absolute value, without the need for recalculating.

This tool consists of two parts, a test tube and a floater with a scale that allows to measure the density of a liquid. The floater also enables you to measure the alcohol content in the must after minor calculation.

In order to execute the measurement properly and receive a trustworthy, exact result, you need to fill the tube with a small quantity of liquid. The inspected liquid must be clear and free of any solid particles and air bubbles. The floater should float freely on the surface of the liquid without touching walls nor the bottom of the tube. The result should be measured by observing the level of the upper meniscus of the liquid.

In order to make the reading of the result easier, the subsequent sugar concentration levels at the most important stages of production were marked with different colours:

• Pink equals values under 22°Blg that relates to the desired level before the start of the fermentation process.
• Yellow spreads down to 16°Blg, a stage that is reached during adding additional sugar portions in the fermentation.
• Green marks the level reached in the final stage of the fermentation of dry to medium sweet wines.
